Call for Proposals, 17th Sakyadhita International Conference

December 24th – 28th, 2021

Kuching, Sarawak, Eastern Malaysia

Conference Theme: "Buddhist Women Beyond Boundaries: Interfaith, Interdependence and Environment."

We now live in a global community that is more connected than ever before. We face unprecedented challenges including environmental and health threats that affect us all, and bold, collaborative solutions are needed. In the 17th Sakyadhita International Conference we will explore how Buddhist women can work together and go beyond boundaries to lead wise and compassionate responses to issues in world at large.

The Planning Committee of the 17th Sakyadhita International Conference is looking for proposals for paper presentations, workshops and film screenings. We are interested in proposals that explore how Buddhist women work together, create visions and transcend traditional boundaries such as the boundaries of religion, class and ethnic groups to promote the Buddha’s teachings and respond to social and political issues in the world today. Both academic research and personal perspectives based on one’s own experiences are welcome.

Proposals for papers, workshops, and film screenings (250 words maximum) must be submitted by December 1st, 2020. Notifications of acceptance will be sent in approximately mid-January 2021. The workshop presenters and poster presenters should submit their plan, and will receive further details upon having their initial proposals accepted. Upon acceptance, papers are due by April 1st, 2021, and must not exceed 1,500 words (approximately 3 pages in a 12 pt font, singlespaced with a 1-inch margin). The paper presentation time is set for 15 minutes. The final versions of these papers will be accessible to conference attendees and translated into several languages including Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese.

Proposals for papers, posters and workshops must be submitted via the online portals here for papers; and here for workshops and films. If you do not have access to the internet, proposals can also be mailed to
